During Computer Science Education Week, students at Math, Science, and Technology Magnet Academy (MSTMA) hosted a schoolwide celebration centered on AI literacy, ethical reflection, and critical thinking.
The event included an assembly and an Hour of AI experience designed to move beyond fear-based narratives about artificial intelligence and instead explore how AI can be understood, questioned, and shaped by people. As part of this work, students created a public service announcement (PSA) highlighting positive applications of AI while also examining its current limitations.
The PSA incorporated B-roll footage generated using Microsoft’s Bing AI Video Creator, which prompted meaningful discussion about representation and bias in AI-generated media. Students observed that AI tools still have a long way to go in reflecting inclusive and diverse perspectives, reinforcing the importance of human oversight and ethical design.

“The goal of this assembly and the Hour of AI event is to make AI literacy accessible. There are a lot of negative thoughts around AI, such as AI taking jobs or scamming people. We wanted to show some of the more positive aspects of AI while also recognizing its limits. AI has a long way to go, and we can be part of shaping what AI becomes.”

This celebration reflects MSTMA’s commitment to empowering students as STEM agents of change—equipping them with the skills to critically engage with emerging technologies and thoughtfully shape the future.
