Origins as a Magnet School
MSTMA at Roosevelt High School was initially created as part of the school integration effort across the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to ensure access for all students regardless of their geographical location. As such, MSTMA serves a broad and diverse community, with approximately 525 students traveling from various neighborhoods, some commuting up to an hour each way. These students come from over 25 middle schools across the district.
Applicants to MSTMA go through the LAUSD’s “eChoices” program and are selected via a district-wide lottery system, ensuring a fair and equitable process. This selection process is designed to be as inclusive as possible, with no screening procedures other than requiring students to reside within the LAUSD boundaries. Given our reputation for academic excellence and a 100% graduation rate, MSTMA often has a substantial waiting list, particularly after the late application window opens. Therefore, we encourage families to apply early to secure a place.
