My name is Patricia Hanson I am the proud principal of the Math, Science, and Technology Magnet Academy (MSTMA) at Roosevelt High School. 2023-2024 data shows that MSTMA is continuing to on our path of excellence and growth. Our class of 2025 showed great gains in the Math SBAC by 10% from the past year, over 70% passed or exceed in English, and students showed growth in almost every AP exam content area. 2024 MSTMA was name a California Distinguished school and a Magnet School of America School of Distinction. We have more to celebrate and 2024-2025 is set to be a great year for the MSTMA community.
MSTMA is located on the iconic Roosevelt High School campus, home of the mighty Rough Riders in the heart of historic Boyle Heights. Our students have access to state of the art athletics facilities, laboratories, exemplary teachers and technology. They also have access to a broad range of electives such as AP Calculus, Ethnic Studies, Robotics, AP World History, AP English, AP Spanish, Bio-Technology; they also have access to after school extracurriculars such as football, marching band, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, water polo, robotics, Mariachi Band, Peer Leadership, MEChA, GEMS(Girls Empowered in Modern Society), Academic Decathlon and more. Our staff are dedicated, energetic, nurturing, motivating and motivated to provide our students with a top notch educational program that will prepare them for college, career and community after high school.
MSTMA is focused on building school and family relationships, Culturally Responsive Practices and most importantly student learning. Our mission is In collaboration with families and community, our students experience an interdisciplinary and Social Justice oriented-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math magnet program that is infused with Humanities courses to develop cultural awareness and social emotional skills so students can flourish in their college, career and post-secondary life.
We are committed to partnering with parents because we know you are our biggest asset. We have monthly coffee with the principal meetings, parent workshops and other opportunities for parents to be directly involved in shaping our school. Our community partners such as College Track, I.am Angel Foundation and the LA Partnership for Los Angeles School provide additional dynamic learning experiences and real world opportunities for all of our students.
Our use of restorative justice practices ensures that all students are a part of our school culture. I look forward to continued partnership with all MSTMA students, families and staff as we navigate this school year.
